Obituary ~ Douglas Eugene "Doug" Hullinger
November 13, 1936 ~ October 27, 2014

Leon Journal-Reporter
Leon, Decatur County, Iowa
November, 2014

Douglas Eugene Hullinger, age 77, of Davis City, Iowa, the son of Buford Dale “B.D.” and Vera Elizabeth (Fordyce) Hullinger, was born November 13, 1936, in Leon, Iowa. He died Monday, October 27, 2014, at the Decatur County Hospital in Leon, Iowa.

As a child, Doug grew up in the Davis City area. His family moved to Manly, Iowa when Doug was a junior in high school. He graduated from high school in Manley in 1955. Doug started farming at a young age, helping his father by driving a tractor when he was four years old. He has been farming ever since. Doug helped take care of the family farm in Davis City in his teens. It was there that he met his future wife, Lois Irene Craig. They were married on June 2, 1957, at the Loving Chapel United Methodist Church in Leon, Iowa. They moved to a farm near Davis City on the river bottom. It was on a dirt road with no running water in the home. They moved to town in 1965, after eight years on the farm. Doug told Lois he would never move again; he lived in that house the rest of his life. They were blessed with four children, Kevin, Dana, Troy, and Stacia.

Doug was a hard worker all of his life, farming and owning and operating a trucking business. When his sons became adults, Doug brought them into farming and raising cattle with him. Doug was very proud of his children and grandchildren. He loved having family get-togethers, serving homemade ice cream, and teasing the kids.

Doug was always proud of the fact that he visited all fifty states and did traveling worldwide. As a child he was baptized into the United Methodist Church of Manly. He was a member of the Davis City United Methodist Church and at one time, the Leon Lions Club.

He was preceded in death by his parents. Survivors include his wife, Lois Hullinger, of Davis City; children, Kevin and Jan Hullinger of Davis City, their children, Laci & Mark Erke and son, Barrett, of Leon and Logan Hullinger of Davis City; Dana and Richard Baumli of Barnard, Missouri, their children, Wyatt Dunbar and his children, Cayden and Caylor, of Maryville, Missouri, Andri & Doug Rush, their children, Jaxon, Alison, and Tate, of Grant City, Missouri; Stacia Hullinger of Prairie City, Iowa, her children, Ashlyn & Adam Millang, their children, Hadley, Beckett, and Harper, of Prairie City, Brett Hewlett of Des Moines, Iowa, Lyndi Yoder and Chloe Yoder, both of Prairie City; and Troy Hullinger of Davis City, his children, Jordan Hullinger, Jascy Hullinger and son, Ronan, Jentri Hullinger, and twins, Trey and Tyke Hullinger, all of Davis City; siblings, Janice & David Norris of Unionville, Missouri, Tyrone & Carllin Hullinger of Harris, Missouri, Roger & Jan Hullinger of Harris, Mariam “Peach” & Bill Young of Raytown, Missouri, and Pam Evanoff of Harris; nieces and nephews; and other relatives and many friends.
