Lowell Edmond Adams, 93, of Grand River and the son of Curtis Elwood and Minnie Adaline (Cole) Adams, was born July 23, 1910, in Decatur County and died March 27, 2004, at the West Bridge Care Center in Winterset.

He graduated from high school in Clarinda. He married Ruby Blanche Glazebrook on Jan. 20, 1934, at Talmage. The couple became the parents of four children.

Mr. Adams farmed in Decatur and Clarke counties. He and Mrs. Adams owned and operated the North Store in Hopeville for five years before moving to the Chicago, Ill. area where he worked at the downtown post office. Later they moved to Des Moines where he did railroad mail service between Des Moines and Kansas City on the Rock Island Line and Des Moines and Minneapolis, Minn. on the Milwaukee Road Line. They moved back to Hopeville.

Mr. Adams spent the last years of his life in Grand River before moving to the care center in Winterset in November 2003.

He loved the Hopeville United Methodist Church and attended faithfully. He read the Bible at least seven times. He enjoyed cross stitching crosses in pockets, hooking wall hangings and playing the mandolin.

Preceding him in death were his parents; wife on July 12, 1999; two brothers, Ralph and Dick Adams; three sisters-in-law, Ruby, Mary and Aletha Adams; nephew Roy Adams and great-granddaughter, Kristi Watts.

Mr. Adams is survived by his childen, Eddie and Sharon Adams of Stover, Mo., Ann and Joe Hays of Truro, Ray and Jan Adams of Belton, Mo. and Jani and Gregg Adams of Norfolk, Neb.; 12 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; twin great-great-grandsons; nieces and nephews; and other relatives and friends.

Funeral services for Mr. Adams are at 10:30 a.m. today (April 1) at the Hopeville United Methodist Church, Pastor Dwayne Hendrichs officiating. Pianist was Joyce Crees.

Casket bearers were Mr. Adam’s grandsons, Brian Adams, Charlie Adams, Chris Adams, Doug Adams, James Adams, Mark Hays, Paul Hays, Scott Koebel and Chris Watts. Interment was in Hopeville Cemetery.

Visitation begins Wednesday morning ( March 31). Family will receive friends from 7 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home.

Memorial donations may be made to the Hopeville United Methodist Church.

Slade - O’Donnell Funeral Home of Leon was in charge of arrangements.
