Garland Gene Draper, age 66 of Leon, Iowa was born August 12, 1946 in Iowa City, Iowa to Shirley Draper. He passed away in his home on November 22, 2012 surrounded by family. His Grandmother Charlotte Draper raised him until the age of 12 when she passed away. Garland then went to live with his aunt and uncle, Art and Ruby Honn on the family farm south of Leon.

Garland attended Central High School in Leon until he was a senior. During his education at Central, he met his future wife Kathy Adams. They were married on August 22, 1965 at the United Methodist Church in Leon. They were blessed with two sons; Gregory Alan and Rodney Lee. Sadly, he lost his wife Kathy in 2001 after 36 years of marriage.

He enjoyed working for the Iowa Department of Transportation and also farmed at the same time. In 1999 Garland started his first business "Westside Tire." He retired from the tire shop in late 2008 at which time his son Greg took over the business.

Garland enjoyed being a grandfather; he had 4 grandsons and 4 granddaughters. He also loved all things John Deere and has been collecting for years. In recent years he had taken up Facebook and Craig's List.

He is preceded in death by Art and Ruby Honn; his wife Kathy; and father in law Bernard Adams. He is survived by Greg (Wanda) Draper; Kyle, Devin, Braden and Levi Draper; Rod (Charity) Draper; Hailey, Ashley, and Sydney Draper; sister Linda (Ben) Joyce; mother Shirley (Floyd) Collins; mother in law Mildred Adams; aunt Beverly Draper; aunt Barb (Paul) Thuesen; and girlfriend Linda Campbell plus Kevin Campbell and Johnny (Lindsey) Campbell and daughter Emery; plus many many family and friends.

[Interment was made at Leon Cemetery.]
