Leon, Decatur County, IowaEarleen Alice (Shackelford) Thornburg was born on Tuesday; April 16, 1935 in Waterloo; Black Hawk County, Iowa. She was the daughter of: Earl Arthur Shackelford and Beulah Iona (Black) Shackelford. Earleen received her education in Waterloo and Patterson, Iowa. She was united in marriage to Lester Carl Thornburg on October 5, 1952 in Patterson, Iowa and six children blessed this union.
Earleen was a dedicated housewife and mother. She spent many years working as a cook at The Roadside Inn in Martensdale. She was a member of Garden Grove American Legion Post #450 Auxiliary Earleen enjoyed many years of traveling to Canada where she loved to fish and pick blueberries. She also enjoyed reading cookbooks, crocheting, sewing and babysitting her grandchildren.
Earleen Alice (Shackelford) Thornburg, age 75, passed away on Friday; November 12, 2010 at the Wayne County Hospital in Corydon, Iowa.
Those left to mourn her passing are: Her husband, Lester Thornburg of Garden Grove, Iowa, five daughters, Suezun Huberty of West Liberty, Iowa, Deborah (Paul) Fox of Edmond , Oklahoma, Threasa (Natalie) Rushing of Wilmette, Illinois, Carol Thornburg of Garden Grove, Iowa, and Ellen (Duane) Sibert of Hewitt, Minnesota, Brothers Clyde Shackelford of Arizona, John Shackelford of Tennessee, and Steve Shackelford of Florida, Grandchildren, Jeremy Jackson of Iowa City, Iowa, Lisa Jackson of Leon, Iowa, Matthew Fox of Edmond, OK, Andrew Fox of Edmond, Oklahoma, Erin Fox of Edmond, OK, Natalie Seeman of Des Moines, Iowa, Amy (Nathan) Montano of Colfax, Iowa, Nathan Kendall of Wilmette, Illinois, Wendy (Tom) Houge of Garden Grove, Iowa, Brian (Britney) Thornburg of Waukee, Iowa, Eric (Christina) Thornburg of Osceola, Iowa, Jennifer Thornburg of Garden Grove, Iowa, Ricky (Doug) Thornburg of Des Moines, Iowa, Dillon Bruett of Winterset, Iowa; fourteen great-grandchildren as well as many other relatives and a host of friends.
Those relatives who preceded Earleen in death are her parents, grandparents, infant son: Carl Thornburg and grandson: Joshua Rushing. May you rest in peace. May God bless her memory and give strength to those that mourn.
Memorials may be directed to the family.
Visitation will be open after 9 A.M on Wednesday at Kale Funeral Home with the family present to greet friends from 4:00 p.m. until 6:00 p.m. at Kale Funeral Home in Osceola, Iowa. Funeral services will begin at: 10:00 a.m. on Thursday; November 18, 2010 also at the Kale Funeral Home in Osceola, Iowa. Interment will be at the Garden Grove Cemetery also in Osceola, Iowa. The Kale Funeral Home have been entrusted to the arrangements.
