Neva Bernice Seitz, age 83 of Garden Grove, Iowa, daughter of Howard Edwin and Verda Opal (Zimmerman) Petty, was born October 6,1917 at her parents' farm in LeRoy, Iowa and died May 24, 2001 at Corydon Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Corydon, Iowa, where she had been a resident since November 1, 1993.

Neva graduated from Garden Grove High School in 1935. She then attended Chillicothe Business College in Missouri, graduating in 1937.

On November 24, 1938, Neva married Edwin Cahail "Bud" Seitz at the home of the Christian Church minister in Leon, Iowa. This was a double wedding with Neva's sister "Lucille.

Neva and Bud lived in Garden Grove, moving to Burlington, Iowa in 1941 while Bud served his country in the U.S. Navy during World War II. Neva worked in the Burlington Ordinance Plant on the detonator line. Neva and Bud moved back to Garden Grove in January 1946.

Five children were born to Neva and Bud: an infant son who died at birth, Sharon Sue, Mary Lou, Suzanne Lea, and Robert Edwin. The family made their home in Garden Grove, where Neva was a dedicated homemaker and Bud was the postmaster.

Neva was an excellent seamstress. She made her children's clothes while they were growing up and used her skills in working for O'Bryan Brothers Factory. Neva liked to embroider, making quilts for her children, grandchildren, and some of her great grandchildren. Bud and Neva enjoyed camping in their trailer and fishing. She also spent time with her flowers and gardening.

Neva was a member of the Methodist Church. She was past Worthy Matron of the Order of Eastern Star in Garden Grove.

Also preceding Neva in death were her parents; brothers Ivan Petty, who died in childhood, and Keith Petty; and sister Lucille Tiedeman.

Neva is survived by her husband Bud Seitz of Garden Grove; four children: Sharon Abrisz-Rogerson and husband Joe of Tomball, Texas, Lou Roe and husband Gerald of Humeston, Iowa, Suzanne Woodyard and husband Stephen of Altoona, Iowa, and Bob Seitz and wife Marlene of Shelby, Iowa; 15 grandchildren and 19 great grandchildren; sisters Opal Tonkinson and husband Charles of Yarmouth, Iowa and Mary Merle Tuttle and husband Maurice of Corydon; brother-in-law Howard Tiedeman of Sun City, Arizona; sister-in-law Marie Petty of Rock Springs, Wyoming; and other relatives and friends.

Interment was made at Garden Grove Cemetery, Garden Grove, Iowa.
