Leon Reporter
Leon, Decatur County, Iowa
April, 1897

William Ruffcorn was born in Ashland County, Ohio, Feb. 4, 1822, being 75 years, 2 months and 7 days old at the time of his death. He resided in his native county in Ohio, 55 years. Then coming to Iowa lived 11 years at Garden Grove and the last nine years of his life was spent in Weldon.

He was twice married, two children, ELLEN and JAMES CURTIS, were born to him by his first wife, and three, ORA, OREN and WILLIE A. by his second wife, all of whom are still living.

At about the age of twelve he identified himself with the Methodist Episcopal. Church, of which he lived a consistent member until death released him from this life, which came at 25 minutes past 10 o'clock on the night of April 11, 1897. He was very conscientious in his convictions, standing firm for what he believed to be the right. He was known and highly respected by a large circle of friends.

The funeral took place from the M.E. Church in Weldon, Tuesday, April 13, at 11 a.m. The discourse was preached from the text in Heb. 4:9; "There remaineth therefore a rest for the people of God" after which the remains were taken to the Garden Grove Cemetery where they were quietly laid to rest by the side of his late companion, who preceded him about three years. -- REV. S.L. CULMER.
