Leon, Decatur County, IowaJane S. Gregg was born in the north part of Ireland June 18, 1840. When she was but four years old, her parents emigrated to Geneseo, New York, where she grew to womanhood. July 20, 1856 she was married to Levi P. Richards to this union were born eleven children, eight of whom survive here but three have gone before. In 187_ Mr. and Mrs. Richards removed to Peoria County, Illinois in 1873 to Ringgold County, Iowa; 1875 to Center township this county [Decatur]; later to Woodland Township, and in 1884 to Garden Grove where they have ever since resided.
Mrs. Richards united with the Old School Presbyterians at Geneseo, NY in 1857, and with the Free Methodists here.
She died at her home in Garden Grove, June 19, 1900 after having lived with her husband in holy wedlock neary forty-four years-aged sixty years and one day. Mrs. Richards was held in high esteem by a large circle of friends.
[Jane served as a Civil War nurse and as a midwife. Interment was made at Garden Grove Cemetery.]
