Sophy M. Dukes-Pool, daughter of Jonathan and Margaret (Myers) Lantz, was born Aug. 6, 1847, at Hagerstown, Ind., and passed away Oct. 1, 1930, at the home of her daughter, Ola L. Potts, at Garden Grove, Iowa.
Those left to mourn are four children, Mrs. Ola L. Potts, Garden Grove, Ia., Mrs. Edith R. Miller, Leesburg, Fla., W. M. Dukes, Centerville, ia., A. S. Dukes, Unionville, Ia.; ten grndchildren and three great-grandchildren, one sister, Mrs. Mary Hoover, Cincinnati, Ia., one brother, Elbert Lantz, Pomona, Calif.
She was a Christian mother, a faithful member of the M.E. church since early life, and a member of the Garden Grove W.R.C. She was a pioneer of Iowa, coming here with her parents in 1851.
Funeral services were held at the home of the daughter, conducted by Rev. L. H. Lanning, pastor of the First M.E. church of Centerville. Interment was made in Garden Grove cemetery.
Relatives present were Mrs. Ola L. Potts, Mr. and Mrs. W. M. Dukes and son Henry, Centerville, Mr. and Mrs. Alvah S. Dukes and son Harry of Unionville.
She married first to Henry Dukes, and had three children. After his untimely death, she married Anderson Jefferson Pool and had a daughter Edith M. Pool.
