Rebecca Ellen Metz, daughter of George W. and Mary I. Smith, was born in Decatur County IA on Aug 9, 1881 and passed away Dec 11, 1965 at the Johnson Nursing Home in Chariton. She had been in failing health for several years.

She was united in marriage in 1903 to Walter K. Metz. To this union were born six children.

She was preceded in death by one daughter, Arlene, by her parents, five sisters, three brothers and four grandchildren.

She leaves to mourn her death, her husband, Walter K. Metz, two sons, Kenneth of Centerville and Hadley of Chariton; and three daughters, Mrs. Lorene Johnson of Devenport, Mrs. Maisel Dachenbach and Mrs. Chlona Holder of Chariton. Also surviving are one brother, Lloyd Smith of Leon and two sisters, Mrs. Edith Gannon of Ravanna, MO, and Mrs. Maude Shelt of Powersville, MO. There are also eighteen grandchildren; mumerous nieces and nephews, and a host of friends.

She united with the Methodist Church in Leon in 1912. She had been for many years a member of the Order of the Eastern Star.

Funeral services were held at 1:30 p.m. Monday, Dec 13, 1965 at the Beardsley-Fielding Funeral Home. The Rev. Paul C. Ellis officated at the service. Eastern Star services were conducted at the funeral home by Eagle Chapter No. 34 of Chariton.

Interment was in the Garden Grove Cemetery.
