August, 1908Catherine Ann Stimmel was born in Burks county, Pennsylvania, March 8, 1836, and died in Humeston, Iowa, August 20, 1908, aged seventy two years, five months and twelve days.
She moved in childhood to Union county, Ohio, where she grew to womanhood. She married in 1852 to E. H. McFarland. They moved to Iowa in the spring of 1856, living a number of years in Johnson county, and later to Humeston where she has resided nearly twelve years. She is the mother of thirteen children, four of whom died in infancy. The nine living children are A. T. McFarland of Des Moines, Emma McCoy of Humeston, A. G. McFarland, California, Mrs. Robert Givan, of Macksburg, Iowa, Mrs. J. G. Gillespie, Oklahoma, Bert and Sam McFarland, Kansas City, Mo., Mrs. G. P. Bartlett, Garden Grove and Miss Nellie McFarland, Humeston.
She was converted to Christ under the ministry of Rev. Hard, about twenty years ago and united with the M. E. church where she has lived a faithful and devoted christian to the time of her death.
Her last illness was brief and she passed away without a struggle. At her bedside at the time of her death were all the children but two, one son and daughter. There were also present an aged sister, Miss Stimmel of Iowa City, and her three brothers, David, Alfred and Chas.
The funeral services were at two o'clock Saturday at the home, and conducted by Rev. J. A. Ross, pastor of the M. E. church, and the interment was in the Garden Grove cemetery.
