Hans Martin Marcusson, was born at Oslo, Norway, May 25th, 1857 and passed away in his home east of Lineville Friday, March 23rd, at the age of 76 years, 10 months and 2 days. He had been in failing health for the past two years and was taken seriously sick March 1st. He was the oldest of six children and came to America at the age of 23 years, homesteaded in Colorado, and farmed in the Grinnell and Lineville areas. Despite his natural disadvantage of not speaking our language, he soon learned to understand the English language and adapted himself to his adopted country. Like others of his nationality he knew how to work and by his industry and good habits he soon laid the foundation for a home. He was a loyal, honest plain spoken Christian and was always a faithful attendant at church as long as his health would permit.

February 17, 1888 he was united in marriage to Iola Ellen Gilbert and to this union six sons and two daughters were born. The children are: John J., Andrew A., Lucius H., Laura Ann May, Clyde K., Harvey E. One son and one daughter has preceded him in death. The wife and mother passed away February 11, 1920. Mr. Marcusson leaves besides his children, four grandchildren and also three sisters in Norway. His was a fine character and his descendants may well follow in his footsteps.
