May 13, 1915John Pereil Jordan was born in Indiana near Cincinnati, Ohio, Jan. 8, 1842, and died April 20, 1915, being aged 73 Years 3 months and 12 days. In 18?2 he came with his parents to Iowa, and settled in Decatur County. While a young man he made profession of his faith in Christ and united with the Presbyterian Church at Lineville, Iowa. At the age of 18 he enlisted in the Civil War as a member of the 3rd Iowa Cav. Co. I, serving two years and six months, when, becoming wounded he was discharged.
March 10, 1864, he was united in marriage with Eliza J. Wasson, at Lineville, Iowa, and to this union there was born eight children all living except John Carl, who died in infancy. Shortly after marriage they moved to a farm and later to Garden Grove, where they resided till 1899 when they moved to Des Moines, and in 1911 they moved to Indianola, Iowa, where he lived at the time of his death. While living in Des Moines, he transferred his membership to the Cottage Grove Presbyterian Church, but faithful in his church relations as in all else, upon moving to Indianola he united with the First Presbyterian Church.
He leaves besides his wife, Joseph Jordan, Weldon: Orris Jordan, Leroy; Mrs. Attie Lillard, Zoeman, Montana; Mrs. Allie Gelwicks, Glendore, Calif; Otto Jordan, Garden Grove; Ross Jordan, Cedar Rapids; Mrs. Vivian Gillogly, Des Moines, and besides these there are eleven grandchildren. Funeral services were conducted at the home in Indianola on the afternoon of April 22nd, and internment was at Garden Grove, Iowa. The funeral services were conducted by his pastor, Rev. W. Oscar Harless.
