February, 1936 - 1936 BLIZZARDS CONTINUE TO RAGE: Into February... when Winifred (German) Burchett died in Grand River the roads were completely impassable from Grand River to Hopeville, so in order to move Winifred's body to Hopeville for burial, many men wielded shovels ahead of Lamoree's hearse, shoveling all the way south to Highway 2 where it was transported to Leon, and on to Hopeville cemetery. By the time of arrival at the cemetery, it was dark and she was buried by the light of kerosene lanterns.
NOTE: Winifred was born September 9, 1891, the daughter of Hiram and Jane Elizabeth "Jennie" (McCutchan) German. She married June 27, 1908 William S. "Sant" Burchett, and died February 7, 1936.
