Obituary ~ Loren Evan Day
May 26, 1936 ~ March 24, 2010

Loren Evan Day, 73 of Bates City, died Wednesday, March 24, 2010, at Blue Springs Medical Center in Blue Springs.

Funeral services were held at Slade-O'Donnell Funeral Home in Leon, Iowa, at 10 a.m. Monday, March 29, 2010, with Pastor Clegguart Mitchell officiating. Burial was in Garden Grove Cemetery, Garden Grove, Iowa. A memorial fund has been established by the family.

Born May 26, 1936, in Moville, Iowa, he was the son of the late Ivan Leroy and Irma Mae (Alldredge) Day. He was married 27 years to Barbara (Vaught) Day, who survives of the home. He graduated from Chula Vista High School in Chula Vista, Calif. After moving to Iowa, he engaged in farming and began driving semi-trucks in 1961, which he did for 48 years. He also lived in Marshall and in Louisiana, where he drove a truck locally and was a driver trainer. He moved to Bates City in 2003, where he drove a dump truck locally until retiring in 2008.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by one son, Jerry Day of Highland, Calif.; one daughter, Shirley Phinney of Ankeny, Iowa; one step-daughter, Karen Dieckhoff of Blue Springs; two step-sons, Robert Cox of Marshall and Walter Cox of Bates City; one brother, Richard Day of Syracuse, Ill.; two sisters, Marilyn Howard of Muscatine, Iowa and Maureen McDole of Fountain Inn, S.C.; eight step-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his grandparents and a brother, Bill Day.
