VELDA SMITH BAILEY, Des Moines

Velda, 90, died on November 2, 2003 at Regency Care Center in Norwalk, Iowa. Funeral services will be 11:30 a.m. Thursday at Caldwell-Raddatz Funeral Home in Urbandale. Visitation will be from 9 to 11:30 a.m. prior to the service. Graveside service will be 2 p.m. at Garden Grove Cemetery in Garden Grove, Iowa.

Velda was born May 20, 1913 on a farm near Garden Grove, IA. She was the oldest child of Jesse and Rose Smith. She graduated from Garden Grove High Schol and attended Business College in Chillecothe, MO. She worked most of her life in Des Moines with a few yeas in Minneapolis. She retired from Weather Whipper Awning and had a long association, about 40 years, with Val Air Ballroom.

She is survived by her sister, Joan (Bill) Frakes; nephews, Michael and Randall (Nancy) Frakes; and nieces, Debra (Brian) Robbin and Linda Cornielson,all of Des Moines, and Judy King of Fremont, NE.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Albert "Spike" Bailey.
