Obituary ~ Alfred Deck
July 09, 1853 ~ January 6, 1931

ALFRED DECK, son of JACOB and NANCY DECK, was born in Indiana July 9, 1853 [1854 on gravestone], and departed this life at his home in east Leon, January 6, 1931, at the age of 77 years, 5 months and 25 days. He was the oldest of the family of four children, his sister, JENNIE, having preceded him in death. He moved with his parents to Missouri when a small boy and then into Iowa at about the age of six years.

On February 10, 1873, he was married to RHODA RIPPLE and to this union four children were born. Two sons, FRED and JOHN, together with their mother having preceded him in death.

On October 15, 1918, he was again united in marriage to Mrs. ELLA ELLIS of Leon, Iowa, who is left to mourn his loss. Besides his wife he leaves a son, HARL, of Jet, Oklahoma, a daughter, MERL, of La Habra, Calif., a brother, Amos, of Leon, Iowa, and a brother, NATHAN, of Tacoma, Wash., together with other relatives and friends.

At an early age he united with the Brethren church and has ever remained a faithful and active member. His devotion to the church was one of the outstanding features of his useful life.

He was stricken with paralysis September 8, 1930, from which he never recovered. He was a patient suffered and greatly appreciated all efforts of relatives and friends.

Funeral services were held form the Leon Brethren church, conducted by Rev. MILES TABER. His body was removed to Oklahoma for burial [at Pleasant View Cemetery, Jet, Alfalfa County, Oklahoma].

Memorial contributions may be given to the Meals On Wheels program or a charity of choice in memory of Mr. Daughton.
