Obituary ~ Levi Chastain
June 23, 1809 ~ March 18, 1894

LEVI CHASTAIN was born in Bath county, Ky., June 23, 1809, and died March 18, 1894, aged 84 years, 8 months and 24 days. On February 3, 1831, he was married to LOUISA MARTIN. To them were born five children, LUCY, FAIN, MARY, LIDE and JOHN. He has twelve grandchildren and four great grandchildren living. Three of his children, MARY, LIDE, and JOHN, were with him constantly during his last illness and by beside.

His wife had preceded him to the land beyond, having departed this life March 23, 1888; also two of his children, LUCY and RAIN.

He and his wife united with the Church of Christ, in the early days of the restoration pleas of this church, coming from the Baptist. In 1834 they moved to Indiana, where they lived until June 4th, 1855, when they came to Decatur county, Ia., uniting with the Eden congregation, where their membership remained until their death. In the fall of 1887 they moved to Leon, occupying his late residence, where at 1:30 Tuesday afternoon the services funeral were conducted by the writer, assisted by Rev. GURLEY. The remains were taken to the family burying ground near his former home.
