Obituary ~ Opal Mae (Frost) Cook
April 23, 1901 ~ April 03, 1983

OPAL MAE (FROST) COOK was born April 23, 1901 on a farm north of Leon, Iowa and departed this life for her heavenly home on Easter Sunday, April 3, 1983 at the Decatur County Hospital being almost 82 years of age. She was the third child of LAWRENCE MATTHEW FROST and NORA ETTA (CASTER) FROST who later farmed near Grand River, Iowa. God saw fit to call the mother home when OPAL was just 6 years old. She attended Centennial country school. In her early adult years she made her living doing domestic work for people in their homes – helping when babies were born, etc.

On April 4, 1927 she was united in marriage to THOMAS ALBERT COOK, a Decatur County farmer. When his health failed they moved to Decatur City. OPAL accepted CHRIST as her Savior and was baptized and joined the Decatur Pentecostal Church in 1950 and later transferred her membership to the Leon Assembly of God Church where she attended as long as she was able.

After her husband’s death in 1963, OPAL and her handicapped son, LEWIS DARWEN COOK, moved to Leon and then to the Decatur County Home where they spent 10 happy years. With the closing of the county home, and both needing more specialized health care, they entered Westview Acres in September 1974. The Lord called LEWIS home the following February.

Though OPAL loved life and her family and friends, she longed to join TOMMIE and LEWIS and spoke often of that reunion in heaven.

The past 8 ˝ years that she resided at Westview Acres she enjoyed to the fullest participating in Bible study, the Ladies’ Sunshine Club, and whatever activities she was able to do. Westview was her home.

OPAL was a loving mother and friend, always regarding others above herself.

Survivors include: two daughters, HAZEL LAVERNE (FROST) MILLER of Osceola, Iowa and NORMA MAY (COOK) KELLY of Des Moines, Iowa and husband GUY JOUNIOR KELLY; two grandchildren, SHAWN ALBERT KELLY at home in Des Moines, and TWYLA JAYNE (KELLY) FROST and husband, JASON LUCILE CHAMBERS of North Hollywood, California and MARGUERITE GREENE of Mt.
