Obituary ~ Lila Lee (Bethards) Bair
May 27, 1938 ~ January 2, 2015

Lila Lee Bair, age 76, of Leon, Iowa, the daughter of Otto Raymond and Dorothy Irene (Myers) Bethards, was born May 27, 1938, in Roland, Iowa. She died at her home on Friday, January 2, 2015.

Lila grew up in the Leon area. She attended country school east of town. She attended Leon High School. On June 24, 1956, she married Charles David Bair in Leon. They were blessed with four children, Christine, Kathleen, Charles, and Charlene. They lived in various places over their life together, such as Leon, Topeka, Kansas, Osceola, Iowa, Lanyon, Iowa, Ft. Dodge, Iowa, and in Arkansas. The children mainly grew up in Lanyon, Iowa and attended school in Gowrie, Iowa. Lila was a stay at home mom while the children were young. Later she worked as a supervisor at Central Lab, which became Globe Union.

In her free time, Lila enjoyed crocheting, her flowers and garden, playing darts, and bowling. She especially loved her dogs. After her open heart surgery David started dancing with her. They enjoyed going to the Eagles Club in Ft. Dodge often.

Preceding her in death were her parents; husband, David on September 2, 2012; and her brother, Ralph Bethards.

Survivors include her children, Chris Canavan and husband Arthur of Decatur, Iowa, Kathy Meier of Leon, Chuck Bair and wife Laura of Omaha, Nebraska, and Sherry Stanberg of Harrison, Arkansas; 12 grandchildren and their spouses, Amy & Ryan, Lisa & Shawn, Matt & Stephanie, Bryan & Nicole, Craig, Jami & Donovan, Melissa & Mike, Melinda, Megan & Robert, Barb & Steve, Travis, and Chad; 19 great grandchildren plus one on the way; one great, great grandchild; sister, Leota Crabb and friend, Bob Bell, of Leon; brother, Raymond "Bud" and Diane Bethards of Tacoma, Washington; and extended family and friends.

Memorial services were conducted at 10:30 a.m. on Tuesday, January 6, 2015 at Slade - O'Donnell Funeral Home, Leon, Iowa, the Rev. Max Carmichael officiiating. Interment was made at Leon Cemetery, Leon, Iowa.
