Obituary ~ John Mendenhall
ca. 1844 ~ July 07, 1882

JOHN MENDENHALL, who is an inmate of the county farm, has been very sick for some time, and last week, his wife who is 79 years old, and makes her home at Davis City, heard of his illness and surprised Steward Shira by walking in to visit him, having walked all the way from Davis City. When asked if she was not pretty tired the old lady laughed and said that was no walk at all for her, and remarked that girls nowdays could not walk like they did when she was a girl. The distance from Davis City to the poor farm is about 10 miles.
