Obituary ~ Byron Frederick “Fred” Robison
December 05, 1948 ~ July 13, 2013

Fred Robison, 64, of Osceola died suddenly July 13, 2013, at his home.

Services were 1 p.m. Thursday, July 18, at Kale Funeral Home, 301 S. Main St., Osceola. The Rev. Terry Roberts officiated. Interment was in Leon Cemetery. Online condolences may be left at www.kalefuneralhome.com.

Byron Frederick “Fred” Robison, son of Lois Nadene (Guilliams) and Billie Dean Robison, was born Dec. 5, 1948, in Clinton, Iowa and passed from this life, suddenly, Saturday, July 13, 2013 in Osceola, Iowa at 64 years of age at his home.

Fred graduated from Clarke Community High School in 1968. He served in the U.S. Navy during the time of the VietNam War. He served in the U.S. Army Reserves as a commissioned officer. Fred was united in marriage to Pamela Joan Johnston on February 2, 1974 at Leon, Iowa and two children blessed this union.

Fred and Pam lived in Creston, moving to Des Moines in 1975 where Fred was a Police Officer for the City of Des Moines, graduating from Iowa Law Enforcement Academy in 1975 was one of his proudest moments. Fred retired as a Senior officer after being injured on duty in 1985. After retiring, he started his own P.I. firm. In 1995 they moved to Osceola. He was elected Mayor and served his term from 2000 to December of 2003. He was proud of being able to get the very large U.S. flag, that flies high above the intersection of Interstate 35 and Hwy 34, erected following 911. He started the Mayor's annual golf tournament, which still carries on today. His term covered the times when the city started the Clarke County Recreation Complex, youth and growth of Osceola was important to Fred. Most recently Fred was able to combine his work with his love of seeing the country. He worked for Star Fleet and transported RVs of all sizes across the country.

Fred founded and was President of World's Greatest Papa Club and the only member. Fred was a member of Iowa State Police Association, Iowa Peace Officers Association, Des Moines Police Burial Association, AmVets in Des Moines, Osceola Eagles Lodge No. 3495, and the NRA. Fred enjoyed traveling and was known to pick up hitch hikers and help them out. He was an animal lover and loved anything chocolate. He had nick names for all his family members, especially the grandkids. One of his joys was letting his children, nieces, and grandkids write and draw pictures on his back. Fred's grandkids turned him into a big teddy bear. He loved taking them fishing and was always talking about getting a boat. He had nick names for all of them and they were "Papa's Gang".

He leaves to cherish his memory; wife Pam Robison of Osceola; daughters, Andrea (Todd) Swennumson of Des Moines and Amanda (Brian) Gunnell of Chicago, Ill.; brothers, Rodney Dean (Veronica) Robison of Wilton and J.W. Robison of Los Angeles, Calif.; sister Florene Moomey of Osceola; grandchildren, Kaitlin “Bundle,” Emily “Button,” Lillian “Peanut,” Ian “Lil Man” and Gunthor “Bubba”; mother-in-law Rova Johnston of Leon; brother-in-law Jim (Mary) Johnston of Leon; sister-in-law Vicky (Alan) Shields of Osceola. Uncle "FeeFee" also is survived by special nieces, nephews, other relatives and many friends.

Fred was preceded in death by his parents; an infant son; and father-in-law Darrell Johnston.

Memorials directed to his family for a fitting tribute to be decided at a later date.
