Obituary ~ H. C. Beachtold

FRANCIS VARGA received a telegram yesterday morning from LOUIS BEACHTOLD, of Chicago, announcing the death in Chicago of his father H. C. BEACHTOLD. Mr. BEACHTOLD was for many years a resident of this county, locating with a colony of Germans at New Buda. He afterwards conducted a Grange store in Leon and left here about 20 years ago, going to Keokuk and from that city to Chicago, where he gained a national reputation as a journalist. He was the editor of the Arbeiter Zeitung, the leading German paper of Chicago at the time of his death. Arbeiter Zeitung translates into English means Workman’s News. Mr. BECHTOLD had many warm friends among the older residents of this country who will be pained to learn of his demise.
