Obituary ~ Frederick Leon "Fred" Barrett

Fred Barrett was the son of Edmond and Martha Ann Malone Barrett and with his brothers William and John H. and sisters, Mrs. Anna Dale of Pleasanton, Iowa, Mrs. Melissa Elwell of May, Oklahoma, grew to manhood on the home farm near Pleasanton. His father, mother and brother William have preceded him.

On March 20 1907 he married to Josephine Minor and to them were born two children, Pauline, residing in Des Moines and George Frederick who is at home with his mother.

At the age of nineteen he began county bridge work under J. E. Leeper and came foreman of this work for Decatur county in 1912,continuing that capacity and working for both county and state until March 1, 1929, when he was made foreman of the Highway Commission Utility crew in district nine, with his headquarters in Leon.

He became a member of the Masonic fraternity at Pleasanton when he was twenty-one years of age. Afterwards his membership was changed to Leon where he took up the Royal Arch work and has taken an active part in both bodies as far as his health and time would permit.

Funeral services were conducted Wednesday afternoon at the Methodist church by Rev. Howard P. Young, with interment in the Leon Cemetery.
