Obituary ~ John Wesley Baker
September 12, 1894 ~ May, 1972

John Wesley, youngest child of James Moses and Sarah Fittro Baker, was born Sept 12, 1893 in Decatur County, Iowa and died May 27, 1972 at the University Hospital, Iowa City, at the age of 78 years, 8 months and 15 days.

John's early childhood was spent on the farm in Decatur County. On July 24, 1914 he was united in marriage to Theda A. Hinds at Des Moines, Iowa. To this union 10 children were born. Most of their married life was spent farming. After moving to town, John worked at Hanoco, retiring after 20 years service to them.

John was a member of the Leon Christian Church.

Preceding him in death were his parents; three sons, Gilbert Wallace, Leland Dean and John Jr.; two daughters, Mary Delphine Jordan and Eula Muriel Gamble; three grandchildren, and sister Kate, and one half-brother, William Baker.

Survivors include his wife, Theda, Leon; five children, Sarah Geraldine Foland and husband Hartzel, Des Moines; Paul Wesley and wife Enid, Osceola; Max Layton and wife Darlene, Leon; Hilda Arebelle Ands and husband Harold, Garden Grove; and Vern Ronald and wife Ruth, Grandview, MO.; 27 grandchildren 17 great grandchildren; one sister Mary Murray, Leon; other relatives and friends.

[Interment was made at Leon Cemetery.]
