William Martin Baker was the son of James and Alice Downey Baker. He married Feb 12 1903 to Theresa Catherine Leahy. To this union ten children were born of whom eight are still living. They are James Malcolm, Des Moines; Marjorie Odene Johnston, Des Moines; Sarah Pauline, Petersburg, Ill.; and the following of Leon; William Rosco, Mildred, Fadena, Kathryn Fleanor, Leo Lavere and Kenneth Lee. Daniel Patrick passed away in May 1927 and Edgar Rowel in Feb. 1923. He leaves to mourn his departure, his loving wife, his father, step-mother, mother-in-law, one half-sister, Mary Murry of Leon, one half brother, John Baker, also of Leon, three brothers-in-law, five sisters-in-law, three grandchildren.

William was killed [February 14, 1930] an accident while loading coal for Graham Coal and Grain. Funeral services were held in the Bretheren church and interment was in the Leon Cemetery.
