Leon, Decatur County, IowaRebecca Lynne Allen, age 53 of Leon, Iowa, daughter of Richard and Nancy (Deaver) Hillyard, was born July 7, 1960 in Mason City, Iowa and died at home surrounded by her family and friends on September 25, 2013.
Rebecca grew up in Millard, Nebraska and Urbandale, Iowa. She graduated from Urbandale High School in 1978.
She married Craig Wayne Allen on November 6, 1976 at the Free Methodist Church in Urbandale. To this union 9 children were born: Sarah Jane, Nicole Lynette, Kathryn Lea, Laura Anne, Clayton Wayne, Jacob Richard, James Wesley, Nancy Rebecca, and Deborah Edith. The family made their home in the Des Moines area until moving to rural Leon in December 1998.
Rebecca was a loving wife and mother who home-schooled her children over the past 20 years. She and Craig were members of NICHE (Network of Iowa Christian Home Educators.) She was an active member of Leon Bible Church and enjoyed singing worship music in the choir or duets with her dad, and Bible study.
Rebecca's passions were her children and welcoming others into her home. She had the gift of hospitality. She enjoyed flowers, gardening, and cats; decorating her home; and collecting and restoring antiques.
Preceding Rebecca in death were her father-in-law and mother-in-law, Chester and Jane Allen of Urbandale and grandson Manny Drake Bear of Des Moines.
Surviving are her husband of 36 years, Craig Allen of Leon; children: Sarah Kuebler and husband Dean of Carlisle, Iowa, Nicole Allen and Dustin Colbert of Des Moines, Kathryn Bear and husband Samuel of Leon, and Laura, Clayton, Jacob, James, Nancy, and Deborah of the home; 10 grandchildren: Emily Kuebler, Ryan Kuebler, Victoria Young, Natalie Young, Connor Young, McKenna Allen, Jaden Allen, Derek Bear, Robin Bear, and Lewis Bear; parents Dick and Nancy Hillyard of rural Leon; sisters Kathy Dickerson and husband Bruce of Piedmont, Oklahoma and Susanne Newman and husband Brian of Clive, Iowa; her church family; and other relatives and many friends.
A memorial fund has been established by the family.
Memorial services were held Sunday, September 29, 2013 at 2:00 p.m., Leon Bible Church, with Pastor Clegguart Mitchell officiating. Interment was made at Leon Cemetery. Slade-O'Donnel Funeral Home of Leon was in charge of arrangements.
