Obituary ~ Harrison Marcus Weldon
1819 ~ August 28, 1893

Leon Reporter
Leon, Decatur County, Iowa
September 07, 1893

Died, at Springfield, Missouri, on the 28th ult, HARRISON WELDON, at the age of seventy-four years, five months and twenty-three days.

To the older citizens of the county, it becomes a matter of sad interest to know that HARRISON WELDON, who was so well known from 1847 to 1865, is no more. He was a prominent citizen during all the time he lived in this county, and during the years 1858 and 1859, he was the efficient and popular Sheriff of the county.

He was born near Crab Orchard, Kentucky, in 1819, and with his parents, emigrated to Grundy County, Missouri, in 1839, and soon afterward married NANCY HATFIELD, and to them nine children were born, of whom seven are still living, among them MRS. CREED BOBBITT, of Leon. He moved to this county and settled on Long Creek, in 1846 or 1847, and later moved to a farm two miles east of Leon, where he resided until he moved away, since then he divided the time living in Kansas and (?) Missouri.

*HARRISON WELDON was a brother to my ggg grandfather, THURMAN WELDON, who married JULIA A. MCDANIEL. HARRISON, along with JOHN MCDANIEL (JULIA'S father) were some of the first settlers of Decatur County.
