Obituary ~ Gerata LaVaughn (McGahuey) Kirk Scott
June 13, 1926 ~ September 19, 2014Gerata LaVaughn (McGauhey) Kirk Scott, age 88, was born on a farm south of Decatur City, Iowa on June 13, 1926, to Raymond and Golda (Young) McGauhey. She passed away September 19, 2014, at the Clearview Home in Mt. Ayr, Iowa.
She attended grade school in Decatur and graduated from high school in Leon, Iowa. After graduation in 1944, she married Carol R. Kirk. They had two children, Randol and Kathy, before his death in 1952. She married Mathias Henry Scott in 1953. They had two children, Susanne and Richard.
Gerata was proud of the fact that she was one of the first three employees of O'Bryan Brothers. She worked there for 25 years before retiring. She and Matt instilled a tremendous work ethic in all four of their children that has been passed down through their grandchildren.
Gerata and Matt enjoyed attending his army reunions, often traveling all over the U.S. There were four couples that attended them together.
She always looked forward to the Kirk-Scott reunions. She would sit and smile at the antics of her grandchildren and great grandchildren. When it got too loud, she would go to her room and read - her great passion.
After she went to the Clearview Home in Mount Ayr, it was a matter of pride that she changed the sheets on her bed and kept her room clean.
Her faith was very important to her. She went to church weekly while she was able and faithfully attended the services at Clearview.
Preceding her in death were her parents, and husbands, Carol Kirk and Matt Scott. She leaves behind all four children to celebrate her life, Randy and Dale Kirk of Albuquerque, New Mexico; Kathy and Dan Jouvenaux of North Little Rock, Arkansas, Susie and Craig Lingner of Olathe, Kansas, and Rick Scott of Leon; nine grandchildren and spouses: Brian & Liz Kirk, Rachel Kirk, Robin & Chad Tibbs, Nathan Jouvenaux, Adam Lingner, Chris & Jamie Lingner, Heather Lingner, Jaime Scott & fiance Nathan Grismore, Nick & Stephanie Scott; eight great grandchildren, Dylan Kirk, Hunter and Parker Tibbs, Layla Jouvenaux, Nash and Jillian Lingner, Olivia and Keaton Grismore; as well as both sisters, Gwendolyn McClure and Glendean Hembry and husband Don, all of Leon. She also leaves behind other relatives and friends who will miss her greatly.
Funeral services will be held at the Slade - O'Donnell Funeral Home in Leon, Iowa at 11 a.m. Saturday, September 27, 2014, with Rev. Terry D. Roberts officiating. Burial will be in the Leon Cemetery, Leon, Iowa
