OBITUARY - MICHAEL CREES

May 27, 1926
Michael Crees, the eldest child of Joseph and Catherine Ann Crees was born
October 11, 1835 in Allegheny County, Pennsylvania, and departed this life
at Grand River, Iowa, May 27, 1926 at the age of 90 years, 8 months and 15
days.
He was married to Miss Margaret A. Noe, July 3, 1871, who departed this lifeAugust 21, 1907. To this union were born eight children; Willis Wilbur,
Joseph A., Ethel and Horace, who have preceded him in death. The living
are: Mary J. Davidson, Catherine A. Beck, Clyde Alonzo, all of Grand River,
Lewis and Maggie E. Weldon of Newton, Iowa.
He leaves to mourn his death twenty-seven grandchildren and six great
grandchildren; four sisters, Rebecca Davidson, Sarah Beck, Catherine Koger
of Grand River, Iowa; Maria Eller of Etna Mills, California; one brother,
Joseph R. Crees, of Grand River, Iowa and many other relatives and host of
friends.
When he was ten years of age his parents came to Iowa and settled in
Jefferson County, remaining there until 1854, when they removed with their
family to Decatur County, where he has since made his home. He helped his
father improve the wild land on Grand River bottoms until the Crees farm wasnumbered among the best in Decatur County.
He confessed his faith in Christ many years ago and was an active member of
the Methodist Episcopal Church, living a faithful life until called home.
He was of a kind and helpful disposition and was always anxious to help
others. A loving father and a kind and true friend.
May earth's loss be Heaven's gain.
Since the death of his companion August 21, 1907 which is almost 19 years
ago, he has made his home with his son Clyde on the old home farm in DecaturCounty, Iowa. He resided in Decatur County about 71 years and in Iowa 80
years. The burial was from Maple Grove M.E. Church, Saturday, May 29th at 2
p.m., conducted by the pastor, L.K. McNeil in the Oak Hill Cemetery, a very
beautiful place to lay our loved ones to rest.
