Death of John Williams

John Williams was born in Coshocton County, Ohio, May 9, 1836, and died at Decatur City, Iowa, September 22, 1908, aged 72 years 4 months, 13 days.

At the age of three years, he with his parents moved to Greene County, Indiana, where he lived until the age of seventeen, when he came to Decatur County, IA. He made his home there until 1860 when he returned to Indiana for a visit. There he enlisted in the 14th Indiana regiment and served for a term of three years. He then re-enlisted in the 20th Indiana and served until the close of the war when he received an honorable discharge. After the close of the war he returned to Decatur county, Iowa where he made his home until his death. In March 1866 he was united in marriage to Miss Harriet Ramsey. To this union were born eight children, five of whom have proceeded their father to their home above. George, William, and Thomas with their mother are left to mourn the loss of father and husband. In 1868 he was converted and joined the M.E. church and ever after lived a faithful consistent Christian life. He was a kind and affectionate father and husband and respected by all who knew him. The funeral was held at the M.E. church, Decatur, conducted by W.B. Cox, his former pastor. The body was laid to rest in the Decatur Cemetery.
