DEATH NOTICE:

(The Leon Journal-Reporter Leon, Iowa June 20, 2012)

OWENS, Dale Lee, 75, of Leon, Iowa died on Monday, June 11, 2012 at the Decatur County Hospital in Leon. Following cremation, memorial services were held at 2:00 p.m. on Friday, June 15, 2012 at Slade-O'Donnell Funeral Home in Leon, Iowa with Rev. Terry Roberts officiating. Interment was held in the Leon Cemetery, Leon, Iowa.

Memorials may be given to "The Giving Tree" at the Decatur County Hospital or the Leon Golf and Country Club.

DALE LEE OWENS ... Dale Lee Owens, age 75 of Leon, Iowa, son of Tony Francis and Nina Lucille (Oliver) Owens, was born April 19, 1937 in Wilder, Idaho and died June 11, 2012 at the Decatur County Hospital in Leon.

As a small boy, Dale's family moved to Lineville, Iowa. He graduated from Lineville High School in 1956. Dale married Jean Ann Bryan and then served his country in the U.S. Army from 1956-1959. He was stationed in Germany, where daughter Tammera Jo was born, and later daughter Kimberly Ann was born.

On September 6, 1972, Dale married Mary Margaret Moore in Trenton, Missouri. His family then expanded to include Mary's sons, Cecil Terry and Jack Arthur Moore. They lived on a farm south of Leon until 1983, when they moved into Leon.

Dale was a zone manager for the Des Moines Register for 30 years, covering all of southern Iowa. He retired in 1996. Dale also sold farmers Mutual Hail Insurance for many years.

Dale took pride in the Leon Golf and Country Club, and spent many enjoyable years playing golf and cards with his many friends. Dale was outgoing and good-hearted. He loved his family and enjoyed spending time with them. Dale and Mary traveled, enjoying warm winters in the South. They had many happy family memories of annual trips to Lake of the Ozarks over the 4th of July.

Dale was a member of Masonic Lodge and Za-Ga-Zig Shrine, and Russell E. Marshall American Legion Post #68 of Corydon, Iowa.

Preceding him in death wee his parents; parents-in-law Earnest and Sadie Black; step-mother Ruth Owens; and step-brother Daryl Beavers.

Surviving are Dale's wife of nearly 40 years, Mary Owens of Leon; children: Tammy Heintz and husband Bill "Goober", of Lamoni Iowa, Kim Grennan and husband Brian of Fort Morgan Colorado, Cecil Moore and wife Carmen of Advance North Carolina, and Jack Moore and fiance Niki of Omaha, Nebraska; grandchildren: Kylie Jo Templeton and husband Mike of Madrid, Iowa, Taryne Allen Heintz and wife Maranda of Ames, Iowa, Kristen Jean Miller and husband Josh of Fort Morgan, Colorado, Bryson Thomas Grennan of Fort Morgan, Colorado, Taylor Nicole Moore of Advance, North Carolina, Chase Tyler Moore of Advance, North Carolina, Morgan Mary Moore of Omaha, Nebraska, and Jadyn Charles Moore of Omaha, Nebraska; great granddaughter Lucy Jo of Madrid and great grandson Tariq of Ames; brother Dick Owens and wife Ione of Webster City, Iowa; and other relatives and many friends.
