Obituary -

(The Leon Journal-Reporter Leon, Iowa Mach 7, 2012)

PAULINE LAXIA WELDER ... Pauline Laxia Welder, age 88, formerly of Decatur, Iowa, was born September 25, 1923 in Brownwood, Texas to George Washington and Annie [Watts] Richey. She died on Monday, February 27, 2012 at the Creston Rehab Center in Creston, Iowa. She was raised during the Great Depression. Her father, who was a lawyer that never lost a case, passed away when she was seven years old. Pauline continued to live on their 84 acre farm with her mother and sister. Pauline graduated from Gustine High School and worked at Camp Bowie Army Laundry where she met Lloyd Emery Welder. They were married August 25, 1944 at a Methodist Church in Brownwood. They moved to Boone County, Iowa and purchased a farm. One daughter, Linda, was born to them on February 20, 1950.

In 1963 they moved and purchased a farm in Decatur County, Iowa, where Pauline helped Lloyd and worked at O'Bryan Brothers until retirement. For a few years after, she worked at the Leon Head Start. When her health started failing, Pauline moved into Westview Acres and later into the Creston Nursing and Rehab Center.

Pauline enjoyed gardening, planting and tending her flowers, watching birds and listening to them sing, fishing, farming, but most of all, helping and teaching others.

Preceding her in death wee her parents, stepfather Chester Roosevelt Shaw, an infant brother, husband Lloyd in 1991, daughter Linda Piearson in 2005, sister Dorothy Mast and husband Doc; and brother-in-law Clifford Welder.

Survivors include her two grandsons, Michael Piearson and wife Judy of Creston, Iowa and Mark Piearson and special friend Diane Horney of Lamoni, Iowa; three great grandchildren, Johnathan Piearson and twins Caleb and Charity Piearson; sisters-in-law, Helen Lee, Violet Poindexter, Lois Peterson, and Betty Welder; brothers-in-law, Gary Welder and wife Shirley, Robert Welder and wife Alene, and Larry Welder and wife Dandy; nieces, Shelby Mast and Sandra Burk, both of Texas and many other relatives and friends.

May her weary body and soul, and mind rest in peace like fluffy clouds in the light blue sky.
