DEATH NOTICE:

(The Leon Journal-Reporter Leon, Iowa January 18, 2012)

JACKSON, Richard "Dick", 91, of Weldon Iowa, died on Friday, September 16, 2011. Funeral services were held at 10:30 a.m. on Tuesday, September 20, 2011 at Kale Funeral Home in Osceola, Iowa. Interment was at Smyrna Cemetery.

Memorials can be directed to the Weldon Community Center or the Smyrna Friends Church.

RICHARD "DICK" JACKSON ... Richard "Dick" Jackson, 91 years of age joined his eternal Father on September 16, 2011. Born April 5, 1920 in Norwalk, Iowa, to Joshua (Jack) and Nellie Kennedy Jackson, Dick was the second oldest of a family of ten brothers and sisters.

Dick's early years were spent at the DeKalb Ranch off Popcorn Road south of Weldon, IA, skating icy creek beds, thrashing oats and pitching baseball for Weldon High School.

He spoke with pride of working the shipyards in the Aleutian Islands during WWII.

After the war he joined a sheep sheering crew in the western mountain states and continued that profession while farming 60 years east of Weldon.

On September 21, 1947, Darlene Moser became his bride and to this union three children were born a daughter, Sherrie (Bob) Peckler of Des Moines, and two sons Rick (Joy) Jackson and Randy (Pam) Jackson of Weldon. He delighted in spoiling his grand daughters Jennifer, Danielle, Joni and Molly.

His many life enjoyments were his devotion to farming and raising seed corn; driving his "B" John Deere tractor and sickle mower fondly remembered as the "neighborhood weed patroller"; volunteering as a 4 H leader; attending the Iowa State Fair; dancing to the sounds of the Big Band Era; being a member of the Smyrna Friends Church; cutting buckets of home made noodles for Church and Masonic Lodge benefits as well as a 50 year member of both the Osceola Masonic Lodge 77 A.F. and A.M. and Ophir Chapter 267 O.E.S. serving as Worthy Patron three years.

Dick was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Ike, June, Bob, George and sister Harriet Watkins; sister in law, Wanda Jackson and brother in law, David Hellman.

He leaves behind to cherish his memory Darlene, his devoted wife of 64 years; 3 children; 4 grandchildren; a great grand child Mallory; brothers, John and wife Janice of New London, IA,. Bud of Weldon, IA, Donnie and wife Kay of Walled Lake, MI and sister, Helen Hellman of Saginaw, MI; sisters in law, Beverly Jackson of Weldon, IA and Verda Jackson of Osceola, IA, brother in law, Ron Watkins of Osceola, IA along with many other relatives and friends.
