John Abraham Thompson, son of David W. and Maggie Hickerson Thompson, was born in Ringgold County, Iowa May 6, 1893, and passed away Friday April 14, 1989 at Worth CO. Convalescent Center in Grant City at the age of 95 years, 11 months and 14 days.

He was proceded in death by his parents, his wife Alma; two sons David and John D.; two brothers Leslie and Lawrence; and a granddaughter Judy Walling.

He married Alma Lynch Sept. 22, 1912, a union of 74 years, to which 10 children were born. He was a member of Lotts Grove Baptist Church and Allendale Domino Players.

Surviving are four daughters, Mildred Walling, Lamoni; Ethel Cheswick, Yuma, Ariz.; Alice Miller, Hatfield; and Margaret Locke Grant City; four sons Howard, Davis City, Iowa; Paul, Lamoni; Lynden, Grant City; and Dick, Manchester, GA.; 29 grandchildren, 53 great grandchildren and 15 great-great grandchildren.

During the depression, John owned his own trucking business and was a stock buyer in the Lamoni area. He farmed for many years in Worth County before retiring and moving to Lamoni 22 years ago.

Along with his immediate family, he leaves many nieces and nephews and a host of friends.

Funeral services were from the Prugh-Dunfee Chapel April 17 conducted by Rev. Homer Sharp. Interment was in Kirk Cemetery near Allendale.
