RUMLEY PERING, Lois Mildred, 77, of Des Moines, Iowa, died on Friday, December 16, 2011 at her home. Funeral services were held at 1:00 p.m. on Tuesday, December 20, 2011 at Slade-O'Donnell Funeral Home in Leon, Iowa with Pastor Dale Short officiating. Burial was in the Leon Cemetery, Leon, Iowa.

LOIS MILDRED RUMLEY PERING ... Lois Mildred Rumley Pering, age 77 of Des Moines, Iowa, daughter of Woodrow Wilson "Joe" Rumley and Ruby Awana Owens Rumley, was born August 31, 1934 in Decatur County, Iowa. She died at her home in Des Moines on December 16, 2011.

Lois grew up in Decatur County and graduated from Leon High School in 1952. She then moved to Des Moines to work as a secretary. Lois met Franklin Hine Pering, and she and Frank were married August 7, 1958 in Huxley, Iowa.

Lois worked various secretarial positions in Des Moines, including the Chevrolet Division of General Motors and Manpower. Three children wee born to Lois and Frank: Matthew Earl, Julie Ann and Janie Sue. Lois was a wife, mother, and homemaker, taking loving care of her family. The family lived in Murray, Iowa from 1971 to 1984, and then returned to Des Moines.

Lois enjoyed fishing, gardening, playing cards and board games, and playing the guitar. Most of all, she was happiest when her grandkids were with her.

Preceding Lois in death were her father Joe Rumley, mother Ruby [Owens] Rumley, brother-in-law Neil Butcher, infant nephew Lanny Rumley, and nephew Michael Butcher.

Surviving are her husband of 53 years, Frank Pering of Des Moines; son Matt Pering and wife Kelly of Des Moines; daughters Julie Akers of Waukee, Iowa and Janie Deutsch of Pleasantville, Iowa; grandchildren: Cory Pering, Bradley Davis, Jennyfer Akers, Stephanie Foulke, Jaymes Akers, Jeremyah Akers, Christopher Foulke, Alayna Foulke, Jaycob Akers, and Jackson Deutsch; sister Evelyn Butcher of Leon; brother Lonnie Rumley and wife Marilyn and Joe Rumley and wife Donna, all of Leon; half-brother John Rumley and wife Jean of Illinois; many nieces and nephews; and other relatives and friends.
