MOON, DALE, 89, of Lamoni, Iowa, died on Saturday, April 9, 2011, at the Lamoni Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Lamoni, Iowa. Funeral Services are pending. Cremation and arrangements are through Slade-O'Donnell Funeral Home of Leon and Lamoni.

MOON, DALE, 89, of Lamoni, Iowa, died on Saturday, April 9, 2011, at the Lamoni Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Lamoni, Iowa. Memorial Services were held at the Lamoni Community of Christ Church in Lamoni, Iowa, at 2:00 p.m. on Friday, April 15, 2011 with Les Gardner, Marie Hawley and Leon Stevenson officiating. Burial was in the Rose Hill Cemetery, Lamoni, Iowa. Arrangements were through Slade-O'Donnell Funeral Home of Leon and Lamoni.

DALE FREDRICK MOON ... Dale Fredrick Moon, age 89 of Lamoni, Iowa, the son of Walter Allen and Ruby Aleta [Goode] Moon, was born April 5, 1922 at Lamoni, Iowa. He passed away peacefully with his daughter at his side at the Lamoni Nursing and Rehab Center in Lamoni on Saturday, April 9, 2011.

Dale grew up in Decatur County, Iowa, graduating from Lamoni High School and Graceland College. He served in the United States Army from October 20, 1942, until his discharge on October 30, 1945. On August 7, 1950, he joined the United States Navy and was discharged on March 13, 1952. Dale worked in other government jobs including the Internal Revenue Service and the Atomic Energy Commission, until in 1964, when he started working for the Equipment Development Center in the qualification and specification programs of the Forest Service in San Dimas, California. He retired in 1977.

On December 14, 1962, he and Frances Lucille Nowack were united in marriage. They were blessed with three children, Charles, Matthew, who died in infancy, and Elizabeth. In his free time, Dale enjoyed flying as a licensed pilot, golfing, farming, visiting with people, and doing stained glass art. He loved animals, especially dogs and cats. He enjoyed motorcycle riding with his riding buddies. He was a baptized member of the Community of Christ Church and served as minister for several churches including one in Corydon, Iowa. He enjoyed volunteering and serving his community. He was a member of the Lamoni Lions Club and the Veterans of foreign Wars.

Preceding him in death were his parents; wife Frances on March 16, 2010; and infant son Matthew. Survivors include his son Chuck Moon of Kodiak, Alaska; daughter Betsy Moon of Lamoni; five grandsons, Jerimiah, Joshua, and Isaac Moon and David and Bill Kelley; four great grandchildren; sister-in-law Florence Welch of Salem, Oregon; nephews, David and Eric Welch; and other relatives and friends.
