DEATH NOTICE:

(The Leon Journal-Reporter Leon, Iowa March 30, 2011)

WATSON, LOWELL JAMES, 85, of Ellston, Iowa, died on Sunday, March 20, 2011, at the Clarke County Hospital in Osceola, Iowa. Funeral Services were held at 11:30 a.m. on Thursday, March 24, 2011, at the united Methodist Church in Van Wert, Iowa. Cremation will follow the services with a private burial in the Benton Cemetery. Arrangements were through Watson-Armstrong Funeral Home in Mt. Ayr, Iowa. Memorials are to Alzheimer's Research and the Van Wert United Methodist Church.

LOWELL JAMES WATSON ... Lowell James Watson, 85, son of Clyde Wesley Watson and Margaret Jane [Redman] Watson, was born on November 2, 1925 at home in rural Van Wert, Iowa. He passed from this life on March 20, 2011 at the Clarke county Hospital in Osceola, Iowa.

Lowell grew up near Van Wert and graduated from Van Wert High School.

He was united in marriage to Opal Oveda Hall on February 23, 1952, in Des Moines, Iowa, at The First United Methodist Church. Two children were born to this union, Michael Lowell and Patricia Diane.

He worked as a ranch hand, farmer, with General Motors, and was owner / operator of L+O Trucking. He was a Staff Sergeant in the US Army, serving in the Korean War with Honor Guard duty. Over the years he enjoyed bowling, playing cribbage, his St. Louis Cardinals, and his grandchildren. Lowell and Oveda enjoyed traveling over the years which included 5 cruises.

Preceding Lowell in death were his parents and his only sister, Lois Eddy.

He leaves to cherish his memory: loving wife, Oveda of Sun Valley Lake at Ellston, Iowa; son Mike (Tina) of Winterset, Iowa; daughter Patti (John) Crouch of Clive, Iowa; 5 grandchildren: J.T., Miah, and Mikayla Watson, Michele and Bill Crouch and other relatives and friends.
