DEATH NOTICE:

(The Leon Journal-Reporter Leon, Iowa March 23, 2011)

SPICER, WILLIAM GEORGE, 78, of Albany, Missouri, died on Saturday, March 19, 2011, at Northwest Medical Center in Albany, Missouri. Funeral Services were held at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, March 22, 2011, at the Roberson-Polley Chapel, Albany, Missouri. Burial was in the Grandview Cemetery, Albany.

WILLIAM GEORGE SPICER ... William George Spicer, the son of Harry John and Martha Bridget [McDaniel] Spicer was born at home on July 12, 1932 in Leon, Iowa. He passed away March 19, 2011 at Northwest Medical Center in Albany, Missouri at the age of 78 years.

Bill attended school in Leon, Iowa through the 10th grade. As a boy, he delivered the Des Moines Register and Tribune. He also helped Father Harkin with mowing, care of the church and the Saint Mary's Old Irish Catholic Cemetery. At age 16, he worked on a road gang, working construction of bridges and culverts. He also worked with crews that built homes in Kansas City, North. In 1952, he entered the United States Army and was Stationed in Greenland and Newfoundland. He proudly finished his service as Corporal in 1954. He then returned to Kansas City, Missouri where he went to work at the General Motors Leeds Plant for thirty years, retiring in 1986.

Bill was united in marriage to Martha Ann Witt on December 17, 1955. To this union two sons wee born, William Lewis and Michael Alan. They lived in Kansas City, North, Missouri from 1955-1988. They enjoyed camping, fishing, car races,and going to country music shows. They thoroughly enjoyed their family and were always there to lend a helping hand when needed. Bill was very handy with fixing and restoring cars. He could fix and build almost anything. In 1988, they moved to Leon, Iowa where they helped care for elderly parents and in 1992 moved to Albany, where they were living at the present time. He recently enjoyed dinners and visiting at the Senior Center in Stanberry.

He was preceded in death by his parents; three infant siblings, Lonnie, Jackie and Carol; sister-in-law, Alice "Tia" Spicer; Sister and brother-in-law, Verela and Donald Nielsen; 2 great-nephews, Sam Spicer and B.J. Siler.

He is survived by his wife of 55 years, Martha; 2 sons, William Lewis (Shanda) of Smithville, MO; Michael Alan (Terry), Kingston, MO; 3 Grandsons, Brett William, Brandon Michael and Matthew Ryan; Brothers and Sisters, Eldon Spicer, Kansas City, KS; Roy (Marjorie) Spicer, Smithville; Harry (Ruth) Spicer, Independence, MO; Bernice (Lloyd) Walker, Conver, CO; Richard Lee (Carolyn) Spicer, Gentry, MO; Reggie Spicer, Bentonville, ARK; Norma Kenner-Spicer (Howard), Littleton, CO; several nieces, nephews, as well as great and great-great nieces and nephews to cherish his memory.
