DEATH NOTICE:

(The Leon Journal-Reporter Leon, Iowa September 8, 2010)

TURPIN, LEONA EMILY, 84, of Osceola, Iowa, died Friday September 3, 2010, at Southern Hills Specialty Care Center in Osceola, Iowa. Funeral Services will be Thursday, September 9, 2010, at 10:00 a.m. at Kale Funeral Home in Osceola, Iowa. Interment will follow in the Leon Cemetery, Leon, Iowa. Memorial contributions may be directed to the life Point Assembly of God Church in Osceola, Iowa.

LEONA EMILY TURPIN ... Leona Emily Turpin 84, daughter of William Harrison Fairchild and Alice Florence [McLain] Fairchild was born June 5, 1926 in Leon, Iowa. she passed from this life on September 3, 2010 at Southern Hills Specialty Care Center in Osceola, Iowa.

Leona was born and raised in Leon, Iowa. She was united in marriage to Earl Benjamin Turpin on August 24, 1944 in Bethany, Missouri. They spent most of their life living on a farm near Davis City and Lamon, Iowa. After retiring, they moved to Osceola in 1991where their son resided.

Leona worked as a waitress in her younger years. She worked a few years in the nursing home and hospital before she began working at a hotel. After her working years she was a homemaker, enjoying time with her family and helping raise her great grandchildren. She loved to play games with her grandchildren and great grandchildren. She enjoyed crafts, making crocheted dolls, and afghans. She was a very good cook and everyone loved her fried chicken. In her later years, when residing at the care center, she enjoyed playing games and especially loved to play bingo. She enjoyed giving plastic bracelets to all of the nursing home residents and staff.

Leona became a member of the Davis City Assembly of God Church in 1951 and was baptized in 1952, she had been a Sunday School Teacher and enjoyed reading her bible. When she moved to Osceola in 1991, both her and her husband attended the Osceola Assembly of God Chruch. Later in life, when she was unable to attend regular church, she liked to attend the Southern Hills Specialty Care Sunday Services ministered by her grandson, Jeff and wife Katie Turpin.

Leona was preceded in death by her parents: William and Alice Fairchild; husband Earl Benjamin Turpin and infant daughter, Alice Jane Turpin and three brothers and three sisters. She leaves to cherish her memory, son William Turpin and (wife Linda) of Osceola; three grandchildren, Sherry Parkhurst and (husband, David Miller) of Osceola; Michael Turpin and (wife Jane) of Waukee, Jeffrey Turpin and (wife Katie) of Osceola; five great grandchildren, Chelsea Renae Parkhurst, Jayden Lynn Miller, Madeline Nicole Turpin, Zachary Michael Turpin and Joseph William Turpin; sister, Louise Decker of Chariton; three step-grandchildren, Todd Weese of Des Moines, Tom Weese and (wife Stacy) of Youngsville, NC, Troy Weese and (wife Amy) of Des Moines; many step-great grandchildren; several nieces and nephews, other relatives and friends.
