DEATH NOTICE:

(The Leon Journal-Reporter Leon, Iowa June 2, 2010)

SIMPSON, Florence E., 98, of Lamoni died at the Decatur county Hospital in Leon, Iowa on May 21, 2010. Funeral Services were held at the Slade-O'Donnell Funeral Home in Leon, Iowa on May 25, 2010 at 1:00 p.m. with Pastor David Shriver and Pastor Dale Short officiating. Burial was at Hamilton Cemetery, near Pleasanton, Iowa. Memorial may be given to New Salem Baptist Church.

FLORENCE E. SIMPSON ... Florence Estella [Davis] Simpson was born to Herd and Minnie [McClarnon] Davis on October 20, 1911 near Pleasanton, Iowa and died May 21 at the Decatur County Hospital in Leon, Iowa at the age of 98.

Florence was raised near Pleasanton and at an early age accepted Christ. After graduation from Pleasanton High School in 1930, she went to Corydon, Iowa and worked for her cousin Homer Grismore and his wife as they were starting up their turkey operation.

On February 7, 1932 at the home of Rev. Elba Dale, she was united in marriage to Guy F. Simpson. This union was blessed by one daughter, Carol, and three sons, Jimmie, Rex, and Don.

Florence and Guy farmed and raised turkeys from 1941 to 1959. They also ran a general store in Pleasanton from 1956 to 1973.

Florence was a member of New Salem Baptist Church, which she loved attending every Sunday she could. Outside her church, family and friends all were very important to her. After the death of her husband Guy F. Simpson, Florence moved to Lamoni, Iowa with her daughter until her passing.

Surviving children are Jimmie Simpson and wife Jane of Cainsville, Missouri, Carol Baughman, who she lived with in Lamoni, Rex Simpson and wife Deanne of Scottsdale, Arizona, and Don Simpson and wife Carolyn of Indianola, Iowa.

Surviving grandchildren are nancy Clark and husband Gregg of Leon, Todd Simpson of Princeton, Missouri, Mary Thomas and husband John of Cainsville, Suzanne David and husband Michael of Alaska, Martha Baughman of New Mexico, Karen Back and husband Barry of Texas, David Simpson and wife Beth of Arizona, Jason Simpson and wife Jelynda of Arizona, Linda Young of Ames, Iowa, Brenda Simpson of Indianola, Debbie Farahbakhsh of Ames Iowa, and Diana Simpson of Des Moines, Iowa.

Surviving are 22 great grandchildren and 5 great, great grandchildren; many nieces and nephews; cousins; and friends.
