BAKER, Gary Wayne, 62, died February 25, 2006 at Iowa Methodist Medical Center in Des Moines, Iowa. Funeral services were held at the Slade - O'Donnell Funeral Home in Leon, Iowa with Rev. Max Carmichael officiating. Burial was in the Humeston Cemetery, Humeston, Iowa.

GARY WAYNE BAKER ... Gary Wayne Baker, age 62, was born October 18, 1943, the second son of Rex Arden and Freda Leola [Adams] Baker, in Leon, Iowa. He died at Iowa Methodist Medical Center in Des Moines, Iowa on Saturday, February 25, 2006.

Gary graduated from Mormon Trail High School in 1962. He married Patricia Lou Housman in 1965. Gary farmed in his early years, raising crops, cattle, and hogs. He worked 25 years at Farm Service in Humeston, Iowa. Then he worked at the cattle ranch, Ria Beca, outside of Lamoni, Iowa until his health forced him to retire.

He enjoyed his horse, King. He was a member of the Humeston Saddle Club. Some of his favorite times were spent being on the horse drill team at the Iowa State Fair. He had a passion for Civil War Stories and memories of wild west shows. He was an avid god and nature lover, he had three dogs, Tootsie, Dill, and Lou Lou. He had a special place in his heart for animals.

Gary was a great supporter of his wife, children, and grandchildren. His close friends were live long friends. He and his family camped at the Iowa State Fair for 25 years. He also rode his horse on security patrol there.

Preceding him in death were his parents, Rex and Freda; brother Ted Baker; infant twin daughter Penny Ann; father-in-law Cecil Housman; aunts and uncles: Max Baker, Phil Leslie, Dale & Berniece Adams, Herman & Olive Adams, Edith & Lloyd James, and Arthur & Cora Adams.

Those who survive him are his wife of 41 years, Patricia Baker of Lamoni, Iowa; son Terry Baker of Minneapolis, Minnesota; daughter Pam Deets and Fiance Brett Little of Leon; grandchildren: Andrea and Ryan Deets; aunts Kitty Baker of Garden Grove, Iowa and Mildred Leslie of Cheyenne, Wyoming; nieces and nephews; mother-in-law Joanne Housman of Chariton; and other relatives and friends.

Gary was a loyal and loving husband, father, and grandfather. The sun is not as bright today!
