HARTER, Dorothy [Kipp], 93, of Lamoni, Iowa, died June 24, 2006 at the Decatur county Hospital in Leon. Funeral services were held at the Slade-O'Donnell Funeral Home in Lamoni June 29 with Elders Gaylord Shaw and Don Harter officiating. Burial was in the Rose Hill Cemetery, Lamoni.

DOROTHY HARTER ... Dorothy [Kipp] Harter, age 93 of Lamoni, Iowa, passed away on Saturday, June 24, 2006 at Decatur County Hospital in Leon, Iowa. She was born November 30, 1912 in Gering, Nebraska, on a Platt River Farm to Joseph J. Kipp, a German immigrant and homesteader in western Nebraska and Grace Ella [Myers] Kipp, a school teacher. Dorothy attended rural school in Gering and later moved with her family to Missouri where she graduated from New York High School near Hamilton, Missouri.

On August 23, 1932 she was united in marriage to Elmer Kenneth Harter in Independence, Missouri. In 1943, the family moved to a farm in Centralia, Missouri until 1952 at which time they move to Liberty Home Farm Dairy farm in Lamoni. In 1959 they purchased and moved to their own farm northwest of Lamoni where she resided until 2000.

Elmer passed away in 1972 and Dorothy continued to operate the farm until the 1990's raising beef cows and calves and field crops. Dorothy preferred to work outdoors on the farm with the livestock and her garden and flowers. During this period of time she was also employed at Graceland College in the food service department.

She was a faithful member of the RLDS Church and raised her family in the church also.

She is survived by her children: Kenneth and Marie Harter of Sully, Iowa; Don and Jane Harter and James and Debbie Harter, all of Independence, MO; Susan and Nick Brown of Atkins, IA; and Jeanne and Tom Ewan of Farmington, NM; 12 grandchildren; 13 great grandchildren; four great great grandchildren; sisters Mabel Handy and Ella Keuck, both of Independence, MO; and sister-in-law Lousie Kipp of Kingston, MO.

She was preceded in death by her parents; two brothers; a grandchild; and her husband Elmer in 1972.
