HAMILTON ... Charles Lewis Hamilton, son of Peter J. and Mary Ellen Quick Hamilton, was born in Decatur County, Iowa. September 29, 1873, and departed this life November 4, 1951, early Sunday morning at his home in Cainsville, Mo., at the age of 78 years, one month and five days, after two years of serious illness.

In his early life his parents moved from Iowa to Harrison County, Mo., where his father purchased a saw mill and was engaged in hauling logs and lumber. He hauled lumber to the present town of Cainsville, where several buildings were being erected. About 1891, his father purchased their farm north of Cainsville where they were in partnership in farming and stock raising.

He was united in marriage to Edna Mae DeLong on January 6, 1900. To this union 10 children were born. Two small girls, Mary Margaret and Edna Fern Preceded him in death.

After his marriage he continued farming and purchased his farm where he lived 42 years and reared a family of eight children, six sons and two daughters.

Charley was always held in high esteem by all who knew him. He was an honest, Hard-working man and tried to follow the Golden Rule -- to do as he wished to be done by.

When his health began to fail, he retired from the farm and moved to Cainsville, Nov. 2, 1943. Despite poor health, he was active to do what he could till the last two years of illness.

He leaves to mourn his passing, his faithful wife, Edna, and eight children, Namely: Ernest, Jasper, Clarence of Ridgeway, Mo., Arthur, Alva, Davis City, Ia., Randall of Leon, Ia., Florence Baker and Rosanna Meinecke of Cainsville, Mo., six daughters-in-law, two sons-in-law, 22 grandchildren, two great grandchildren, four sisters, Mrs. Ervin Willis, Blythedale, Mo., Mrs Robert DeLong of Davis City, Ia., Mrs. Rose Osborn of Council Bluffs, Ia., and Mrs Ulna Mossburg of Cainsville, one brother-in-law, Ernest Dobson, Akron, Mo., one nephew, Joseph W. DeLong of Chula Vista, Calif., who at the age of nine years was taken into this home and reared as an own son. There are also many Nieces, nephews, other relatives and a host of friends.

Although his wife has been an invalid and confined to a wheel chair for 10 years he never seemed to tire of thoughtfully and lovingly caring for her.

Mr. and Mrs Hamilton celebrated their Golden Wedding January 6, 1950.

....."Between the eve' tide and morning

.....While mortals were taking their rest,

.....From the realms where time is not counted,

.....The death angel came forth on his quest,

.....This time he wanted rare treasure,

.....To take back to his Father's throne;

.....So he looked where likely to find it,

.....'Neath the roof of a little home,

.....So quietly he came to our dwelling,

.....There was none that could say nay;

.....In the silence of the night hour

.....He took our dear father away.

Funeral services were held at the Christian Church in Cainsville Nov. 7, 1951 at 2:00 pm conducted by the Rev Elba Dale of Davis City, Ia.

Flower girls were his granddaughters.

Joe Bartel, Myrtle Mathis, Mrs. William Campbell, Velma Barth, Ed Percell, and Roy Barth sang "God Will Take Care of You" "Never Grow Old", and "Shall We Meet Beyond the River".

Pall bearers were nephews Joseph DeLong, Lloyd DeLong, Lee DeLong, Frank DeLong, Garland DeLong, and Paul Alexander.

Burial was in the Zoar Cemetery with E. J. Stoklasa in charge.

Friends and relatives who came from a distance were Joseph W. DeLong, Chula Vista, Calif., Mr. and Mrs. Robert DeLong, Roy Hullinger, of Davis City, Mrs. J. A. DeLong of Ridgeway, Mr and Mrs. Charley Quick of Centerville, Ia., Floyd Quick, Mrs. Lucy Adair and Mrs. Nina Morrow of Des Moines, Ia., Mr. and Mrs. Arthur Willis and Mrs Louie Irvin of Skidmore, Mo., Frank Day and son Elmer and daughter Berdena of Quitman, Mo., Mr. and Mrs. Artis Snead and Doris June Fish of Martinsville.
