DEATH NOTICE:

(The Leon Journal-Reporter Leon, Iowa March 7, 2007)

SHUEY, Dorothy Mae, 91, of Decatur Iowa, died March 15, 2007 at Mercy Medical Center in Des Moines. Funeral service were held march 19 at Slade-O'Donnell Funeral Home in Leon with Rev. Max Carmichael officiating. Burial was in Decatur Cemetery, Decatur, Iowa.

A memorial fund has been established by the family.

DOROTHY MAE SHUEY ... Dorothy Mae Shuey, age 91, the daughter of Arlie Jesswick and Bertha Elizabeth [Myers] Meyers, was born on August 23, 1915 in Blue Earth, Minnesota. Dorothy passed away on March 15, 2007 at Mercy Medical Center in Des Moines, Iowa.

Dorothy attended school in Mingo, Iowa. As a young girl, Dorothy was baptized at the Methodist Church in Mingo.

Dorothy was unite din marriage to Harold Shuey on February 4, 1935. To this union four children were born: Delores, Larry, Glen, and Mary. She and Harold began farming at Prairie City, Iowa. In 1951 they purchased a farm and farmed south of Decatur, Iowa. They later farmed at Winterset, Iowa.

After Harold's death, Dorothy moved back to Decatur and lived there until her health worsened. She then went to Leon care Center in 1995 and to Westview Acres in 1998.

While living in Decatur, Dorothy liked making latch hook rugs, doing puzzles, gardening, and cooking. Dorothy loved to help with community functions. Her grandchildren would often ask for recipes and she'd say she didn't have one. Instead she'd tell them, "Add a cup, a dab, or pinch of this ...," especially for her dressing and revel soup.

Preceding her in death were her parents; husband Harold Shuey; son Glen Eugene Shuey; daughter Mary Jean Shuey; two sisters, Neva Hanawalt and Ruth Miller; two brothers, Russell and Floris Meyers; and great grandson Ryan William Freeman.

Dorothy was a wonderful mother, grandmother, great grandmother, and great-great grandmother. She loved her children very much.

She is survived by her daughter Delores Norman and husband Mickey of Decatur; son Larry Shuey and wife Ann of Colfax, Iowa; daughter-in-law Charlotte Shuey of St. Charles, Iowa; grandchildren: Rod Norman and wife Donna of Van Wert, Iowa, Gayla Norman of Decatur, Karen Schuldt and husband Rod of Van Wert, Brad Shuey of Colfax, Michelle Shuey of Colfax, Staci Shortt and husband Roger of Winterset, Marty Robertson and husband Curt of Greenville, Wisconsin, and Dottie Hamilton Mt. Ayr, Iowa; great grandchildren: David Norman and wife Sarah of Earlham, Iowa, Matthew Norman of Dexter, Iowa, Tara Norman of Van Wert, Amy Norman of Decatur, Mindy Hamilton and husband Wade of Van Wert, Trent Schuldt and fiance Lindsey Green of Van Wert, Eric and Evan Shortt of Winterset, Tiffany Freeman of Osceola, Melissa and Sarah Robertson of Des Moines, and Elizabeth, Emily, Erin, and Noah Short of Mt. Ayr; great-great grandchildren: Grace Norman, Lane Moore, and Carlee and Hallee Hamilton; two brothers, Arlie Junior Meyers and wife Shirley of Davis City, Iowa and Dale Meyers and wife Edith of Moore, Oklahoma; nieces and nephews; and other relatives and friends.
