JOHN THOMAS PETTICORD was born near Lexington, Ky., Sept. 8th, 1851, and
died at his home 5 miles north of Leon, Iowa, March 31st, 1914, aged 62
years, 6 months, 23 days. In August, 1874, he was married to SARAH WOOSLEY
and to this union nine children were born, namely, GLENMORE, NATHANIEL,
WILLIAM, Mrs. CHARLES PASSWATERS, LOGAN, Mrs. P.H. BIGGER, ELVIA, FRED and
CLAUDE, all of which reside in Decatur County, except the two daughters, and
who with the wife survive him. He also leaves four brothers and one sister,
besides a host of friends to mourn his departure.

In 1873 he migrated from Kentucky to Illinois, in which state he lived until
Feb., 1908, when he with his family moved to Decatur County, Iowa, where he
has resided ever since. He had been in failing health for several years,
but was not confined to his bed until about eight weeks ago. His suffering
was severe from that time on. The funeral was held in the Church of the
Brethren and interment in the Cemetery near by.
