DEATH NOTICE:

(The Leon Journal-Reporter Leon, Iowa January 27, 2010)

HAWTHORNE, Lawrence Elmo "Larry", 73, of Lineville, Iowa, died January 20, 2010 at him in Lineville. Funeral services were held January 23 at Slade-O'Donnell Funeral Home in Leon, Iowa with Pastor Jack Stark officiating. Cremation followed the service, and burial will be at a later time at Earley Cemetery in Mercer, Missouri.

LARRY HAWTHORNE ... Lawrence Elmo "Larry" Hawthorne, age 73 of Lineville, Iowa, son of Oren Franklin Hawthorne and Dorothy May [Gimbil] Hawthorne McDivitt, was born September 26, 1936 in Des Moines, Iowa and died January 20, 2010 at home in Lineville.

Larry grew up in Des Moines. He married Judy Arlene Cotter on January 18, 1954 in Des Moines. Eight children were born to this union: Dianne, Rick, Julie, Brenda, Larry, Bill, Lisa, and Jamie. The family made their home in Des Moines until moving to Lake Marie at Mercer, Missouri in 1972. Larry and Judy made their home in Pleasanton, Iowa from 1986 until moving into Lineville in 2005.

Larry worked all his life as a construction contractor. He was self-employed and enjoyed his work. He did all kinds of construction including homes, decks, siding, and plastering. Every summer Larry's family went with him on his jobs, which took them all over the United States. They liked traveling, and Larry and Judy spent the last several winters in Texas.

Larry loved having his family around, and they enjoyed his barbecues and fish fries. Larry and Judy spent many good times fishing together.

Preceding Larry in death were his parents, and son Rick Hawthorne.

Surviving are his wife of 56 years, Judy Hawthorne, of Lineville; 7 children, 22 grandchildren, and 28 great grandchildren: Daughter Dianne and Crockett Houk of Mercer, grandson Skeeter and Tammy Houk and children Levi, Dillon, and Dalton, granddaughter Casey and Doug Leach and children Vanessa and Nathan, granddaughter Cheyenne Houk and Billy and children Sklar, Kenzie, and Brendan, and granddaughter Jenny Houk; son Rick's children - granddaughter Tara and Rusty Provance, granddaughter Toni and Alex Partin and children Alex and Ben, and granddaughter Christy McBee and Charlie and children Hannah, Stormy, Tyler, and Chandler; daughter Julie and Mike Houk of Lineville, grandson Mike Houk and Tiffany and children Juliann and Colin & Gracie, granddaughter Angie and Randy Michaels and Children Kaylee, Corbyn, Kelsey, and Rainey, and granddaughter Codi Houk and Billy; daughter Brenda Mills of Princeton, Missouri, granddaughter Missy Houk an Deric and children Curtis, Aidan, and Daezah, granddaughter Judy and Jeff Reeves and children Spencer and Katie, granddaughter Lori and Brandon Runyan and children Chloe and Gianni; son Larry and Jolene Hawthorne of Boonville, Missouri, granddaughter Emily Hawthorne and grandson Ethan Hawthorne; son Bill and Ginger Hawthorne of Kernersville, North Carolina, granddaughter Jordan Hawthorne, granddaughter Caitlin Hawthorne, and grandson Nicholas Hawthorne; daughter Lisa Veach of Leon, Iowa, grandson Jake Veach, and granddaughter Ashley Dale and Dustin and son Jamie and Val Hawthorne of Dallas Center, Iowa, grandson Alex Hawthorne and grandson Sam Hawthorne; brother Oren and Mildred Hawthorne of Des Moines; and other relatives and friends.
