JACKSON, Shirley June, 71, of Garden Grove, Iowa, died Saturday, January 23, 2010 at Iowa Methodist Medical Center in Des Moines. Funeral services were held at the Slade-O'Donnell Funeral Home in Leon January 28 with Pastor Marvin Kauffman officiating. Burial was in the Leon Cemetery, Leon, Iowa.

SHIRLEY JUNE JACKSON ... Shirley June Jackson, age 71 of Garden Grove, Iowa, the daughter of Max Brown and Margaret LaJune [Akers] Rhodes, was born November 30, 1938 in Decatur County, Iowa. She died at Iowa Methodist Medical Center in Des Moines, Iowa on Saturday January 23, 2010.

Shirley's mother died when she was a teenager, so Shirley helped look after her sisters and brother. She did the cooking and cleaning for the family. She continued her school work and graduated valedictorian of her class from Van Wert High School in 1957.

On September 14, 1957 she married Kenneth Wayne Jackson. They were blessed with three children, Max Wayne, Christopher Eugene, and Melissa May. Shirley spent most of her married life as a farm wife and a homemaker for her family. She enjoyed cooking, flowers, gardening, and yard work. She liked to quilt and enjoyed giving them to family and friends.

Preceding her in death were her parents; two stepmothers; husband Kenneth on November 2, 2007; sister-in-law Thelma Cox; and step granddaughter Jennifer Cross Peacock in November 2009.

Survivors include her children, Max & Angela Jackson of Ackworth, Iowa, Chris & Bobbi Jackson of Ankeny, Iowa, and Melissa Niles of Johnston, Iowa; grandson Kenneth Jackson of Pleasantville, Iowa; step granddaughter Heather & Ken Wootten of Hot Springs, Arkansas; step great grandchildren, Jasmine and Tyler Peacock of Hartford, Iowa; sisters Barb Rhodes of Des Moines, Iowa Carolyn & Carl Fullerton of New Virginia, Iowa, and Patty Bethards of Osceola, Iowa; brother Bill & Goldie Rhodes of Gilbert, Iowa; brother-in-law Junior & Darlene Jackson of Grand River, Iowa; nieces and nephews; and other relatives and friends.
