STEPHEN SCOTT was born in Germany, January 26, 1825, and died at the home of
his son, WILLIAM SCOTT, in West Leon, September 8, 1913, aged 88 years and 7
months.

He came with his parents to this country and settled in Ohio where he
resided until 1852, then came to Lee County, Iowa. Two years later he moved
to Decatur County settling near Garden Grove where his home has been until
two years ago when he came to Leon to make his home While living in Ohio he
was married to Miss SARAH KERN. To this union eight children were born, two
of whom have preceded the father in death. The six children living are
WILLIAM, HENRY, GEORGE, BELLE, ALBERT and VINA. All were present at the
funeral except BELLE who could not reach here in time from her western home.
Mr. SCOTT leaves thirty grandchildren and sixteen great grandchildren. In
1862 Mr. SCOTT enlisted in the 34th Iowa Infantry and served in defense of
his country. He was a good soldier. Soon after the war he was converted and
united with the Christian Church.

Funeral services conducted by Rev. C.W. Reeder, of Leon, were held at the
Old Dunkard Church northeast of this city, September 11th, in the presence
of a large congregation of relatives and old friends. The remains were
placed by the side of the companion of his youth who passed away in 1882.
Thus another honored veteran has passed to his reward. Peace be to his
ashes. The sympathy of the entire community goes out to the bereaved
children.
