DEATH NOTICE:

CRAIG, Mamie Loraine, 93, of Afton, Iowa, formerly of Van Wert and Leon, Iowa, died Wednesday, January 6, 2010 at the Afton Care Center in Afton, Iowa. Funeral services were held at the Slade-O'Donnell Funeral Home in Leon January 11, with Jim Lane officiating. Burial was in the Van Wert Cemetery, Van Wert, Iowa.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Van Wert United Methodist Church or Hospice of Central Iowa in Osceola, Iowa.

MAMIE LORAINE CRAIG ... Mamie Loraine Craig, age 93, the daughter of Ivan Sherman and Lillie May [Fierce] Corsbie, was born October 11, 1916 at Van Wert, Iowa. She died at the Afton Care Center in Afton, Iowa on Wednesday, January 6, 2010.

Mamie graduated from Van Wert High School in 1934. In April 1936 she married Marvin Gordon. They were blessed with four sons, Meryle Lee, Marvin Kenneth, Ronald Ivan, and Donald Wayne. They farmed west of Leon then southeast of Van Wert near Popcorn Road. Marvin died in July 1959. In October 1962 Mamie married Emmett Craig, he died February 10, 2004.

Mamie loved the farm and being outside working in her garden. She also enjoyed crocheting and was a member of a quilting club and the Van Wert United Methodist Chruch. She worked at the Decatur County Hospital for a few years and at E & M Cafe in Leon.

Preceding her in death were her parents; husbands, Marvin and Emmett; brother, John Merlyn Corsbie; and sons, Kenneth in February 1989 and Ronald in July 2000.

Survivors include her sons Meryle Gordon and wife Freda of Osceola, Iowa and Don Gordon and wife Sherri of Denver, Colorado; daughters-in-law, Marilyn Booth of Brighton, Colorado and Sue Gordon of Nashville, Tennessee; eight grandchildren; 21 great grandchildren; five great, great grandchildren; stepdaughters, Lois Hullinger, Roberta McKern, and Joyce Shirley; sisters, Mable Horney and husband James of Afton and Mildred Adams of Van Wert; sister-in-law Patricia Corsbie of Des Moines, Iowa; nieces and nephews and other relatives and friends.
