DEATH NOTICE:

(The Leon Journal-Reporter Leon, Iowa December 30, 2009)

GRIFFEN, Terry L., 64, of Urbandale, Iowa, formerly of Leon, Iowa, died Monday, December 21, 2009 at Iowa Methodist Hospital in Des Moines. Funeral services were held December 28 at the Kaiser-Corson Funeral Home, Shell Rock, Iowa. Burial was in Riverside Cemetery in Shell Rock.

Memorial may be directed to the family.

TERRY L. GRIFFEN ... Terry L. Griffen, 64, of Urbandale, Iowa, and formerly of Shell Rock, Iowa and Leon, Iowa, died on Monday, December 21, 2009 at Iowa Methodist Hospital in Des Moines, Iowa.

Terry was born on February 14, 1945, the son of Kenneth and Delphine [Baker] Griffen. He attended school in Leon, Iowa and graduated from Leon High School in 1963. He served in the US Army as a military courier and was stationed in Belgium with (SHAPE) the Supreme Headquarters Allied Powers Europe, a military branch of NATO.

He was united in marriage to Jean Eichhorn of April 22, 1972. He attended Mount Mercy College in Cedar Rapids and received his B.S. in Business Administration in1976. Terry and Jean moved to Shell Rock and Terry farmed for 10 years with Jean's father, Jim Eichhorn. In 1985, the couple moved to the Des Moines area and Terry worked for Comtron. He retired in 2004, form Wells Fargo Home Mortgage in Des Moines as a payroll commission accountant.

Terry enjoyed golfing, Chicago Bears football and watching Iowa Hawkeyes football and basketball. His greatest accomplishment was teaching the light of his life, his son Alien to play golf.

Terry is survived by his wife, Jean of Urbandale, Iowa; his mother-in-law, Helen Eichhorn of Rural Shell Rock, Iowa and a sister, Charlene.

Terry is preceded in death by his parents, his grandparents, John and Theda Baker; two sons, Michael John Griffen in 1980, and Alien James Griffen in 1989 and his father-in-law, James A. Eichhorn.
